What is the worst thing you have ever seen in person? I know it's kind of a bleak sounding blog post, but I wanna know. Just make sure it was a live event and not something from the internet since the internet can easily trump anything in the sickness category - 2 Girls 1 Cup? Goatse? Tub Girl? Maggot Eye?
For me one of the worst things I have ever seen in person was one day when my dad, brother and I were on our way to a construction job and saw a dog being hit by a car on Route 65.
Here is what happened -
It was a day kind of like today - wet, rainy, grey/gray. We had just picked up a bunch of windows from the North Side Window Factory and we were driving towards the job site. It seemed like a normal work day, but things suddenly turned bleak.
If you have ever driven on Route 65 you will know that shortly just past the Bellevue Live Worship Shop sign (right by McDonald's) starts a bunch of houses on both sides of the road. As we drove toward Sewickley Scott (my brother) and I noticed a woman step out of her house. Well she accidentally let two dogs out of her house. I remember there being a couple other dogs in the yard so I'm not sure if the neighbor's dogs were in her yard or not. As soon as her dogs got outside her house they started to chase the other dogs in the yard. None of them had chains or leashes on them.
Then things started going in slow motion...
She yelled at her one dog - which was a medium sized dog. In the excitement the dog ran after the other dogs and for some reason ran out of the yard and into oncoming traffic. Like I said things slowed down as just then a car slide right into the dog. The odd thing was that the dog didn't flip over the windsheild or end up under the vehicle. It just stayed there up against the front wheels and under the front bumper as the car skidded to a stop. It wasn't the drivers fault. It was just an accident.
We were driving in the other direction so all of this took place in front of us. My dad just kept on going so we didn't see what happened after the initial impact of the vehicle. I don't know if the dog was killed or what took place after the hit. Being 14, I was kind of freaked out for the rest of the week afterwards. To this day I can still see the accident in my head.
Luckily though that is about the worst things I have ever seen in person. I can't imagine how the lady must of felt.
BTW: Shortly after the accident and while it was still fresh in my psyche my dad just had to stop for breakfast at Eat n' Park. I still remember the not-so-amusing joke he and my brother made about the ketchup looking like the blood of a dead dog.
The worst thing?
